Kunal Ghosh Reflects on TMCs Election Loss as a Necessary Step for Party Purification

Kolkata, June 29: Kunal Ghosh, a legislator from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), stated on Monday that the party’s significant defeat in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections was essential. He believes this loss has unveiled hidden traitors within the party.

Targeting the ‘Rebel Majority’ faction led by expelled TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, Ghosh emphasized that if the party had not faced such a substantial defeat, the true faces of these traitors would have remained concealed.

In a social media post, Ghosh expressed his sorrow over the TMC’s loss in the May 4 elections. He noted that while he was pleased with his victory from the Ballygunge seat, it was overshadowed by the party’s overall defeat. However, he now views the outcome as ultimately beneficial.

Ghosh explained that if the TMC had won, these traitors would have surrounded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as supporters. He remarked, “Had we won, many opportunists would have pretended to be friends and remained within the party. Some individuals, now trying to appear honest, would have had free rein to engage in theft and corruption. This could have inflated the egos of certain party leaders.”

He further stated that criminal elements infiltrating the party would have intensified their oppression against opponents and shown no mercy within the party itself.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Ghosh criticized non-political figures who unnecessarily engage in political platforms for personal gain. He pointed out that a certain class of police, bureaucrats, intellectuals, and businessmen often pretends to serve their interests.

He warned that if the TMC had won, the excesses of these masked groups would have led to the neglect of dedicated party workers, organizers, and well-wishers, causing them to feel stifled within the party.

Despite the election results that have ousted the TMC from power, Ghosh believes it has helped cleanse the party of accumulated dirt. Under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, true and dedicated workers who genuinely love the party will continue to support the TMC in its struggle, even as it faces challenging times. He concluded that the test of time is strengthening the party for the future.
