Irans President Announces Release of $6 Billion Held in Qatar

Tehran, June 29: Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian made a significant announcement on Monday, claiming that $6 billion of Iran’s $12 billion held in Qatar will be released soon. He shared this information during an event in the holy city of Qom.

According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Mehr, he stated that the lifting of sanctions on the oil and petrochemical sectors would provide relief to the country’s economy.

Pezeshkian noted that the sanctions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical sectors had been removed as part of a peace agreement, which he described as a “great victory” for the Iranian people.

During his visit to Qom, after meeting Grand Ayatollah Shobairi Jannani, President Pezeshkian announced that the first phase would see the release of $6 billion from the total amount held in Qatar. He emphasized that the government is actively working to recover the remaining $6 billion.

According to the President, “This step is part of the agreement reached during talks in Switzerland and the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).”

Pezeshkian praised the resilience of the Iranian people during recent conflicts, highlighting that despite tragic events, including the killings of the Supreme Leader, ministers, military commanders, and even schoolchildren, the nation, armed forces, and government stood united to defend the country.

He accused the United States and Israel of attempting to destabilize Iran through economic pressure, but asserted that the patience of the people and divine support thwarted their plans.

The President reiterated that Iran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons, a policy clearly stated by the late Supreme Leader, which the current government continues to uphold.

He assured the international community that Iran’s nuclear program will operate solely in accordance with the country’s needs and declared policies. He claimed that ultimately, the U.S. forced Israel to accept the peace agreement, although he noted that Israel and some opposition groups still oppose its implementation.

Pezeshkian mentioned that the government has begun preparations for reconstruction following the conflict and is implementing plans such as additional financial assistance for food subsidies to provide relief to the public.
