Hyderabad, March 29: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has raised concerns with the central government regarding its inaction against former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, despite the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project being handed over to the CBI for investigation.
Speaking in the state assembly, he urged BJP leaders from the state to bring this issue to the forefront at the central level. He remarked that it has become a habit for BRS legislators to leave the assembly after making suggestions.
In response to the BRS’s reaction to the committee’s demand for an investigation, a BJP member suggested that the Congress government should agree to this demand to ensure smooth proceedings in the assembly.
Reacting to this, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reminded BJP leaders of their accusations that Kaleshwaram has become an ATM for KCR. He stated, “Not only us, but even the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have said that KCR’s family is involved in the embezzlement of funds in the Kaleshwaram project. Union Minister Kishan Reddy claimed that if the Kaleshwaram case was handed over to the CBI, KCR and Harish Rao would be behind bars within 48 hours. Trusting his words, we handed over the Kaleshwaram case to the CBI.”
He pointed out that several months have passed, yet the central government has failed to take action against KCR and Harish Rao.
Accusing the BJP and BRS of collusion, Revanth Reddy alleged that both parties exchanged votes and seats during the parliamentary elections. He stated, “It would be appropriate for BJP leaders to make suggestions only after sending KCR and Harish to jail in the Kaleshwaram case.”
The Chief Minister also alleged that Harish Rao’s younger brother, Mahesh Rao, threatened private industry owners in Balnagar, Mahbubnagar district, and illegally transferred hundreds of acres of land to his name using the ‘Dharani’ portal.
He added, “If Harish Rao agrees, we are ready to form a house committee to investigate this matter. If KTR and Venkataraman Reddy truly believe that Harish Rao is an honest person, they should agree to the formation of the house committee.”
Members of the ruling party expressed strong objections to BRS obstructing proceedings over the demand to form a house committee to investigate illegal mining allegations. They stated that the government has already proven its commitment by ordering a CBCID investigation into illegal mining since 2014.
Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu mentioned that there is no need for a house committee after the government has already ordered investigations by central agencies and the CID.
