Hyderabad, August 24: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchandra Rao initiated a 48-hour hunger strike on Monday, demanding the state government release the pending fee reimbursement amounts.
He alleged that the Congress government has failed to disburse nearly ₹15,000 crores in fee reimbursements, jeopardizing the future of 4 million students.
The BJP leader claimed that the youth of Telangana are now rising against the Congress government.
Ramchandra Rao stated, “This government has completely failed to fulfill almost every major promise made to students and youth. Due to the Congress government’s negligence and irresponsible attitude, Telangana’s education system is in deep crisis. Millions of students’ education, employment, and future are uncertain. The Congress government should remember that the students and youth you have deceived will be the ones to oust you from power tomorrow.”
He also challenged Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, to come to Telangana and ensure the pending fee reimbursement amounts are released.
He remarked, “If Rahul Gandhi truly has the courage and cares about the future of students as he has claimed in recent days, he should come to Telangana and get the pending fee reimbursement released from his Congress government.”
Ramchandra Rao emphasized that 4 million students are affected due to the Congress government’s failure to release the dues.
He added, “Educational institutions are withholding students’ certificates due to the pending fee reimbursement amounts. As a result, students are unable to pursue higher education or secure job opportunities. Approximately ₹15,000 crores are pending, putting students’ education, careers, and futures at stake.”
Ramchandra Rao asserted that the BJP will continue its struggle until the government releases the pending amounts and delivers justice to every student.
Meanwhile, Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Poonam Prabhakar accused Ramchandra Rao of staging a drama over fee reimbursement to maintain his political relevance.
The minister stated, “If you have the courage, bring the funds from Delhi. If your intentions are clear, I challenge you to bring the funds allocated to Telangana by the central government from Delhi.”
She mentioned that the Congress government is paying off old liabilities left by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government.
Poonam Prabhakar also noted that starting this academic session, the government will provide advance fee reimbursement to SC, ST, BC, and minority community students through banks. She added that funds for welfare hostels are also being released through a green channel.
The minister questioned whether any BJP-ruled state has implemented a fee reimbursement scheme.
