Mumbai, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra Congress leader Amin Patel has formally requested an extension for addressing issues related to absent, shifted, deceased, or removed voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He communicated this request in a letter to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on October 9.
In his letter, Patel, who serves as the deputy leader of the Congress legislative party, referenced a previous communication where he had sought to extend the deadline for resolving these voter issues to October 31. Although the deadline for addressing these cases was moved to October 12, he believes more time is necessary.
Patel claimed that many voters listed in the absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate (ASDD) category are facing significant challenges in submitting Form 6 at designated hearing locations. The officials had assured that the relevant Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would be available at these sites, allowing voters to submit their forms. However, he noted that BLOs were often unavailable, hindering voters from completing their submissions.
Additionally, he pointed out that many BLOs are either unresponsive to phone calls or have their phones turned off, making it exceedingly difficult for voters to reach them.
Patel concluded his letter by urging the CEO’s office to extend the deadline from October 12 to October 31. This extension would provide voters with adequate opportunity to submit necessary documents, including Forms 6, 7, and 8, and participate in the hearing process before any decisions regarding their voter registration are made.
