Bengaluru, August 24: Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra announced on Monday that the party will conduct continuous protests during the ongoing monsoon session. The BJP demands the resignation of B. Nagendra, the Minister of Planning and Statistics, due to alleged irregularities in the Tribal Welfare Corporation.
The current monsoon session of the Karnataka Assembly began on August 13 and is set to conclude on August 27. Since the session’s commencement, the BJP has disrupted proceedings, insisting on Nagendra’s resignation.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Vijayendra stated that the party’s movement will persist until Nagendra steps down. “There is no question of withdrawing our protest. The BJP will intensify its actions and stage overnight sit-ins demanding Nagendra’s removal,” he asserted.
Vijayendra also criticized the cabinet’s decision to approve amendments allowing the use of five percent of the total land of government parks and gardens across Karnataka for public and other essential works.
The BJP has opposed the proposed amendment, accusing the Congress government of promoting real estate interests at the expense of public spaces. “This decision will make it clear to the people of Karnataka that this is a real estate government. The Congress is solely focused on promoting real estate activities,” he claimed.
He accused the state government of making decisions that benefit the Congress leadership at the expense of the public. “The Congress government in the state is doing everything to please its high command. The AICC has turned Karnataka into an ATM,” he stated.
Vijayendra also alleged that the government is making decisions against the interests of the poor. He emphasized that the BJP and JDS have strongly opposed such decisions and will continue to raise their voices.
“There is strong opposition to the government’s decisions. The BJP and JDS condemn these anti-people and anti-poor policies,” he added.
He reiterated that the party will maintain its movement until the government meets their demands.
On Monday, the BJP staged a protest at Freedom Park, attempting to surround the Vidhana Soudha while demanding Nagendra’s resignation over alleged corruption.
