Pakistani Lawyers Show Support for PTIs March and Demands

Islamabad, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : In Islamabad, lawyers have rallied behind the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Reports from Friday indicate that the All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee has expressed its support for PTI’s march and its associated demands.

According to the Dawn newspaper, Ali Ahmed Kurd, chairman of the committee, along with representatives from various bar associations and councils, declared that PTI’s march represents a historic struggle to bolster democracy and the rule of law in Pakistan.

In a statement, the lawyers highlighted that the PTI is marching against the supremacy of the constitution and law, advocating for an independent judiciary, and addressing the ongoing economic and political crises, deteriorating law and order, and the illegal detention of political and human rights activists. They also cited concerns over inflation and chaos in the country.

Additionally, the lawyers called for the release of PTI’s founder Imran Khan and other detained party leaders. As reported by Dawn, they warned that protests would ensue if Pakistani authorities impose governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or take any undemocratic actions.

Earlier, on Thursday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi affirmed that PTI would continue its long march, stating, “There is no way back.” The party’s convoy reached Peshawar on the fifth day of its journey, according to The Express Tribune.

Addressing the participants, Afridi emphasized that PTI would persist in its political and democratic struggle within the framework of the constitution and law. He expressed gratitude to the people of Khyber, Peshawar, and southern districts for joining the march and urged them to maintain their enthusiasm.

Afridi described the march as a fight for “true freedom,” asserting that despite facing challenges, Imran Khan has remained steadfast and has not succumbed to pressure. “There is no way back. The dream of true freedom will certainly be realized. They will shoot at us, and we will stand firm,” he stated, as reported by The Express Tribune.
