NDA Leaders Back Open Letter from 42 Former Judges, Criticize Oppositions Threat to Democracy

Patna, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : NDA leaders have voiced their support for an open letter signed by 42 former judges, which warns against attempts to undermine the Election Commission. In Patna, both the BJP and JDU described the letter as a crucial alert for democracy and launched a sharp critique of the opposition.

Sanjay Sarawagi, president of Bihar BJP, stated, “The way Congress and the opposition mock constitutional institutions has become a pattern. If a decision favors them, it’s seen as a victory for democracy. However, if it goes against them, they begin to question these institutions. The entire country is witnessing the opposition’s misconduct. This is why the 42 former judges issued a warning against the campaign to weaken the Election Commission, judiciary, and other constitutional bodies.”

Sarawagi emphasized that the letter reflects the concerns of enlightened citizens regarding the opposition’s dangerous attitude toward democracy.

Minister Ram Kripal Yadav also endorsed the former judges’ letter. He remarked, “The judges expressed goodwill in their letter. The questions raised against the Election Commission are part of a conspiracy to weaken our constitutional framework. These judges are knowledgeable individuals, and their sentiments are entirely justified.”

Yadav further accused the opposition of wanting to create chaos, stating, “Everyone is frightened by their actions, which is unfortunate.” He asserted that questioning an independent body like the Election Commission is an attack on the nation’s constitutional order.

Rajeev Ranjan, national spokesperson for JDU, labeled the letter as extremely significant. He remarked, “A large number of retired judges have responded in this manner. Opposition leaders must realize that the public and the country’s intellectuals are observing their attempts to target constitutional institutions and weaken Indian democracy.”

Ranjan concluded, “Undoubtedly, trust in the India Block and its leaders is gradually diminishing among those who believe in democracy.”
