Uttar Pradesh Government Offers Free LPG Cylinder Refills Ahead of Diwali

The UP government announces free LPG cylinder refills for beneficiaries ahead of Diwali and Holi, benefiting over 6 million families.

Lucknow, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a significant relief measure for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana ahead of Diwali. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the proposal to continue providing one free LPG cylinder refill for both Diwali and Holi was approved.

For the fiscal year 2026-27, eligible beneficiaries will receive two free cylinder refills, costing the state government approximately ₹2,142.78 crores. Food and Logistics Minister Manoj Pandey confirmed that this initiative aims to ensure access to cooking gas for low-income families. The first free refill will be distributed between October and December 2026 for Diwali, while the second will be available from January to March 2027 for Holi.

To qualify, beneficiaries must have their bank accounts linked to their Aadhaar and complete the Aadhaar verification process. This requirement has been established by the government to ensure eligibility. The Yogi administration has previously provided free cylinder refills during Diwali and Holi in past fiscal years, and this practice will continue this year. Officials believe this initiative will increase the use of clean fuel among poorer households, protecting women and children from the harmful effects of traditional fuels.

In addition to the cylinder refill program, the cabinet also approved a proposal to name the upcoming airport as “Narendra Modi International Airport Noida Jewar.” During a press conference, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted various achievements, including housing for over 6.5 million poor families and free rations for around 15 crore people through ration cards.

The government has also implemented the Jal Jeevan Mission, providing tap connections to 2.46 crore rural families, while 3.37 crore toilets and 59,183 community toilets have been constructed. The Ujjwala scheme has facilitated 1.86 crore free gas connections. Additionally, over 6 crore Ayushman cards have been issued, providing health coverage to more than 9.9 crore individuals, with significant funds allocated for treatment of severe illnesses.

The Chief Minister noted the creation of over 9.5 lakh government jobs and 65 lakh private sector jobs, along with training for 31.11 lakh youth. New opportunities have been created for athletes through sports universities and complexes. Furthermore, over 10 lakh self-help groups have engaged more than 1 crore women, while the PM Svanidhi scheme has supported 15 lakh street vendors.

The government has also granted constitutional status to the backward classes commission and provided 10% reservation for economically weaker sections under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
