BJP Leader Dismisses Alliance Speculations with Akali Dal Amid Punjab Elections

Chandigarh, August 25: Speculations about a potential alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027 have been put to rest. BJP leader Amanjot Kaur Ramu Walia stated that as long as Sukhbir Badal remains in the Akali Dal, there will be no question of a partnership with the BJP.

Walia emphasized that the BJP is preparing to contest all 117 assembly seats independently. She mentioned that the party is systematically organizing its workers for this strategy.

In an interview, she asserted that there is no reason for senior BJP leaders and workers to consider an alliance with the Akali Dal, as the latter has historically hindered the BJP’s progress. Walia, who has previously been a part of the Akali Dal, revealed that directives were often given to prevent BJP from entering villages.

“We have prepared our cadre for all 117 seats. We have candidates and workers at the booth level. We will contest the assembly elections alone and perform well,” she stated.

Walia further remarked that regardless of what Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Sukhbir Badal claim, there will be no coalition between the BJP and the Akali Dal. She suggested that Akali leaders are discussing alliances only because they cannot sustain themselves without the BJP.

She claimed that Akali leaders are aware that they cannot win seats without the BJP, and their cadre is increasingly shifting towards the BJP. To protect their cadre, the Akali Dal is spreading confusion about a possible alliance. Recently, Sukhbir Badal met Prime Minister Modi but did not disclose any discussions regarding an alliance, indicating that the Akali Dal is merely creating confusion.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Vijay Sampla reiterated that the party has made it clear from the beginning that it is preparing to contest all 117 seats. He stated that any decision regarding an alliance will be determined by the party’s high command. “If the high command decides on an alliance, we will act accordingly as loyal soldiers. We will follow any directives received from the center,” he added.
