Chandigarh, August 25: The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Tuesday its full support for the state’s government employees and pensioners, who plan to go on a major strike on August 27. This action is in protest against the government’s failure to release their pending Dearness Allowance (DA). The employees will collectively take casual leave on that day.
Punjab BJP President, Keval Singh Dhillon, stated that employees and pensioners have been compelled to take this step after repeated appeals to the government went unanswered.
Dhillon emphasized that the state government can no longer use excuses or administrative reasons, as the court has already ruled on this matter. The High Court dismissed the government’s arguments and ordered the release of the employees’ pending DA.
He noted that the government challenged this ruling before a double bench led by the Chief Justice, but the court upheld the previous decision.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dhillon expressed, “It is extremely unfortunate and sad that despite repeated court orders, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Bhagwant Mann is ignoring the legitimate claims of its employees and pensioners. This attitude reflects the government’s insensitivity towards those who have served the state for decades.”
He further stated that the government’s continuous failure to comply with court orders has led to the initiation of contempt proceedings. This is a serious issue that should not have escalated to this extent.
The Punjab BJP President demanded that the AAP government immediately release all pending DA for employees and comply with court orders without delay. Employees and pensioners deserve financial security, respect, and justice, and the government should stop forcing them to fight for what is legally and justly theirs.
