New Delhi, May 22: Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, launched a scathing attack on the central government on Friday. He recalled that before becoming Prime Minister on July 25, 2013, Narendra Modi remarked on the competition between the central government and the falling rupee, questioning which would drop further. Today, the rupee has reached its lowest point, becoming the weakest currency in Asia.
Yadav pointed out that under Modi’s leadership, the rupee has been in decline for eight consecutive years. Over the past 12 years, the rupee has lost half its value. While the Prime Minister claims that India is one of the world’s largest economies, Yadav highlighted that when looking at GDP per capita in US dollars, India ranks 16th globally, trailing even behind Bangladesh.
He criticized the visionless economic policies of the NDA government, stating that they have led to a complete collapse of the economy. Inflation, poverty, and unemployment have reached unprecedented levels. Bihar, the country’s poorest state, is facing dire financial conditions.
Yadav emphasized that prices for essential items such as LPG, petrol, diesel, fertilizers, and educational and medical supplies are on the rise. Basic necessities like ration, oil, lentils, milk, and daily essentials are becoming increasingly unaffordable for the common people. For poor and middle-class families, managing household expenses has become a challenge. Everything from food to transportation has become expensive, yet the NDA’s so-called double-engine government lacks a solid roadmap to curb inflation.
He concluded that the Prime Minister and the double-engine government have no remedy to control this inflation crisis. Unemployment, poverty, and inflation are escalating at alarming rates. Governance in Bihar appears non-existent, and the NDA government shows no concern for the common citizen.
