
New Tehri, April 25: A review meeting on district planning was held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, under the chairmanship of Ganesh Joshi, the Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Soldier Welfare. The meeting took place in the district collectorate auditorium and focused on drinking water, tourism, development projects, and long-term planning.
Minister Joshi emphasized the need for a more effective and visionary district plan. He insisted that all plans should involve the participation of local representatives, legislators, and the community. A long-term development strategy should be prepared with a focus on the next 30 years to address future challenges.
He described the water crisis as a national-level challenge and called for a well-planned and effective development strategy to resolve it. The minister instructed the district magistrate to hold a separate meeting with the tourism department to explore new avenues for promoting tourism.
During the meeting, the district magistrate presented various innovations and best practices in the district. He highlighted the ‘My Block My Shop’ initiative aimed at empowering women by marketing local products in each development block. Additionally, facilities such as a feeding room for women at the district hospital, ‘My Block My Library’ in all blocks, free coaching through ‘Physics Wala’, and the rapid development of new sports facilities were discussed.
The district magistrate provided a brief overview of the district plan, which includes a financial demand of ₹95.21 crore for the year 2026-27. The presentation showcased initiatives under central and state-sponsored schemes in agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, fisheries, tourism, education, and health. Key projects include embankment work, trout fish production, kiwi fruit cultivation, goat valley development, tourism viewpoints, repairs of CHCs/PHCs, and construction of toilets in schools.
During the meeting, Vikram Singh Negi, the MLA from Pratapnagar, raised serious concerns about drinking water issues in his area. DFO Puneet Tomar informed about the impact of road erosion on water sources. The district magistrate directed the drinking water department to take immediate action. Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay and Municipal President Mohan Rawat questioned the quality of the ISBT and Bauraadi market being constructed by ADB. The legislators from Dhanolti and Tehri discussed the construction of ring roads and toilet facilities in schools.
At the beginning of the meeting, the district magistrate welcomed Minister Ganesh Joshi, all legislators, the district panchayat president, and the district president by presenting them with plants.
