Ujjain, July 30: The commencement of the auspicious month of Sawan brought an extraordinary gathering of devotees at the world-renowned Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thousands of devotees arrived early in the morning to participate in the sacred Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Many were seen standing in long queues since late at night, eager for a glimpse of the deity. The temple resonated with chants of ‘Jai Mahakal,’ creating a spiritually charged atmosphere.
In accordance with tradition, special worship and rituals were performed for Baba Mahakal. This included the Panchamrit Abhishek, divine adornment, and the offering of food. During the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were deeply moved as they beheld Lord Mahakal. Many described the extraordinary sight of the Aarti as an unforgettable spiritual experience. Several devotees expressed that participating in the Bhasma Aarti on the first day of Sawan was a special blessing from Mahakal.
One first-time attendee shared that he felt incredibly fortunate. He remarked that witnessing the Bhasma Aarti on his birthday was the most precious gift of his life. He described this divine experience as beyond words, stating that he felt a profound sense of spiritual peace through Mahakal’s grace.
Punjabi singer Deep Mani also visited the Mahakal Temple and participated in special prayers. He described the experience of witnessing Baba Mahakal as peaceful and divine. The large crowd of devotees on the first day of Sawan highlighted the temple’s religious significance and the unwavering faith of its followers. Authorities made special arrangements for the convenience and safety of the devotees, ensuring a smooth flow of worship and rituals.
A devotee mentioned that this is an age-old tradition. The temple doors opened at 3 AM, and special worship along with the Panchamrit Abhishek (using yogurt, milk, honey, sugar, and ghee) was conducted, followed by a saffron bath for Baba. Before the Bhasma Aarti, Baba was adorned with bhang.
Another devotee remarked that today marks the beginning of Sawan, Lord Shiva’s favorite month. For the followers of Mahakal, it felt like the start of a grand festival. Baba Mahakal granted divine visions, making it seem as if He was present among them.
