Patna, July 30: In the ongoing by-election for the Bankipur Assembly seat in Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed concerns about potential voter fraud. The party has written to the returning officer, demanding strict verification of voter identities at all polling stations.
To ensure a peaceful and fair election process, the Election Commission has implemented extensive security measures. In a letter sent by Nitin Abhishek, the BJP’s state general secretary, to the returning officer and DCLR of the Bankipur constituency, allegations were made that representatives and workers associated with the Jan Suraj Party might attempt to influence the election process through fraudulent voting.
The letter states that such activities contradict the fundamental principles of democracy and undermine the spirit of free, fair, and transparent elections. The BJP has urged election officials to strictly adhere to all provisions for identity verification during the voting process. Specifically, the party has requested that each voter present their original Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and that a careful match is made between the voter’s name and identity on the electoral roll before voting. Additionally, the party has appealed for clear instructions to be issued to all presiding officers and polling staff regarding these requirements.
A copy of this letter has also been sent to the District Election Officer and District Magistrate of Patna, with the BJP expecting prompt action on the matter. Meanwhile, voting for the Bankipur by-election has been ongoing since Thursday morning, with comprehensive security arrangements in place at polling stations. Central security forces have been deployed at all booths, and the Election Commission has made necessary arrangements to monitor the voting process. The administration has urged voters to exercise their voting rights without fear.
