Tamil Nadu Directs Private Schools to Display Approved Tuition Fees by June 5

Chennai, June 2: The Directorate of Private Schools in Tamil Nadu has mandated that all private schools in the state publicly display their approved tuition fees by June 5. This directive aims to ensure transparency in school fee collection.

The order applies to nursery, primary, matriculation, CBSE, and other private board schools operating in Tamil Nadu. It follows a recent ruling by the Tamil Nadu Information Commission, which stated that the fee structure of schools constitutes public information and should be accessible to parents and the general public.

In an order issued on May 29, the Information Commission instructed the Directorate of Private Schools to ensure compliance with this directive and submit a report by June 15.

In response, the department has issued detailed instructions to schools and district-level officials for immediate implementation. According to the order, school management and principals must display the approved tuition fees in a manner that is clearly visible to parents and the public.

In addition to posting this information on school notice boards, institutions are required to publish the approved fee details on their respective websites. The Directorate has also made it mandatory for schools to include class-wise tuition fee information in student admission applications.

Officials state that this initiative aims to ensure that parents are fully informed about the approved fee structure before enrolling their children.

To monitor compliance, district education officers (Private Schools) have been instructed to inspect schools within their jurisdiction to verify the implementation of the orders. They are required to submit a detailed report regarding compliance by June 10 or earlier.

As part of the verification process, schools must provide photographic evidence demonstrating the display of the approved fee structure. The Directorate will retain these records as proof of implementation and compliance.

S. Suganya, the Director of Private Schools, has warned that adherence to this order is mandatory without exceptions. She stated that schools failing to comply will face government notices and further action from the authorities.

Education officials believe this measure will help address ongoing complaints from parents regarding a lack of clarity in fee collection by schools and promote greater accountability among private educational institutions across Tamil Nadu.
