Chennai, March 15: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin participated in an Iftar event organized by the party’s minority wing in Aminjikarai, Chennai, on Sunday. He emphasized the longstanding relationship between the DMK and the Muslim community.
After inaugurating the Iftar program held during Ramadan, Chief Minister Stalin expressed his happiness in addressing the gathering. He stated, “I am delighted to partake in this noble event organized during the holy month of Ramadan. The bond between the Muslim community and the DMK has been established for generations.”
Stalin praised the Muslim community’s commitment to charity, compassion, and social harmony. According to him, Muslims have consistently demonstrated generosity and a spirit of helping others, treating everyone with equality and respect.
He also highlighted various welfare initiatives implemented by the DMK government, particularly focusing on women’s empowerment. “The greatest strength of the current government in Tamil Nadu is women,” he noted.
Stalin mentioned the gathering of Islamic organizations at the event, asserting that unity among Islamic movements is essential not only for Tamil Nadu but for the entire country. He stressed that bringing minority groups together on a single platform would strengthen democratic values and social harmony.
The Chief Minister criticized the opposition, particularly the AIADMK leadership, questioning whether AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has raised a strong voice against attacks on minorities without naming anyone directly.
He alleged that minority communities across various parts of the country are facing increasing challenges and intolerance. “It is not just Muslims who are facing troubles. In some places, even Christians are unable to celebrate festivals like Christmas peacefully,” he claimed.
In a sharp political remark, Stalin accused the AIADMK leadership of compromising their political independence. “EPS has not only mortgaged the AIADMK but has also sold his conscience to the BJP,” he stated.
The Iftar ceremony saw participation from numerous Muslim leaders, party officials, and representatives of minority organizations, reflecting the DMK’s outreach to minority communities ahead of upcoming political developments in the state.
