Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay Heads to London for Investment Push

Chennai, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Tamil Nadu government is intensifying its efforts to attract new industrial investments. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will depart for London on Thursday night, marking his first official overseas trip since taking office.

The Chief Minister will leave Chennai at 10 PM, traveling via Dubai to reach London. He is scheduled to stay in the United Kingdom until September 16 and will return to Chennai on September 17, also via Dubai.

During this trip, a high-level delegation led by the Chief Minister will meet with investors and representatives from major companies. Vijay is set to participate in an investor conference in London, where he aims to showcase Tamil Nadu as a premier destination for manufacturing, technology, and other emerging industries.

Senior officials from various state departments have already traveled to London to arrange the program. Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjun has arrived in the British capital, and Industry Minister Keertana is also expected to join the delegation.

This foreign visit comes immediately after the conclusion of the state assembly’s budget session. Officials are currently busy coordinating the Chief Minister’s travel schedule and arrangements at Chennai Airport.

The Tamil Nadu government has set an ambitious target to grow the state’s economy to $1.5 trillion by 2036. Attracting both domestic and foreign investments has been a crucial part of its economic strategy since coming to power. Recently, Keertana visited South Korea, where she engaged with various companies, including an automobile manufacturer, resulting in signed investment agreements.

On August 13, a global investors’ meeting was held in Chennai, leading to the signing of memorandums of understanding with several companies.

The government claims to have reached agreements with 104 companies within its first 110 days in office, which includes proposed investments of ₹1,02,514 crores and the potential creation of 1,21,788 jobs.

This renewed push for investment in Tamil Nadu comes amid stiff competition from Andhra Pradesh and other states seeking large industrial projects. The government aims to strengthen its connections with international businesses and secure a larger share of new investments.

The main objective of Chief Minister Vijay’s London itinerary is to convert investor interest into firm commitments, while also highlighting the state’s infrastructure, skilled workforce, and industrial ecosystem.
