Lucknow, August 12: Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput has sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its planned outreach campaign in schools and colleges. He questioned the effectiveness of the BJP’s initiative, stating that merely engaging with students and youth will not resolve their grievances. Rajput accused the BJP of talking about dialogue with the youth while simultaneously facing criticism from the opposition regarding issues like exams, employment, and student concerns.
Rajput launched a scathing attack on the BJP, saying, “You devise plans against Gen Z, leak their exam papers, use pellet guns against them, and label them as terrorists. BJP leaders call Gen Z extremists and then ask where their funding comes from. After all this, you claim to engage with them? What kind of outreach is that? Gen Z will uproot you.”
He also raised concerns about a recent drug test incident involving a pilot from Air India, questioning the government and the Ministry of Civil Aviation. “Since the BJP came to power, drug trafficking cases have surged. If the BJP has any shame, they should demand the resignation of the Civil Aviation Minister,” he stated.
Rajput questioned how a pilot could operate a plane under the influence of drugs, emphasizing that pilots should undergo drug tests. “Why wasn’t a drug test conducted?” he asked, labeling the situation as a serious threat to passenger safety. He remarked, “The government is negligent regarding Gen Z and equally careless about passenger security. We have never seen a pilot under the influence during Congress’s rule.”
On the central government’s decision to send the FCRA bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), Rajput viewed it as a positive move. He noted that the government has at least acknowledged the need for detailed discussions on such significant legislation. He insisted that the opposition must play an active role in the JPC to highlight the bill’s shortcomings and propose necessary reforms. “Any important law should be discussed thoroughly rather than rushed through,” he added.
Rajput also commented on the ongoing interviews for the appointment of the CEO of the Ram Temple, criticizing the trust conducting the interviews as composed of “traitors, thieves, and robbers.” He argued that the trust should not have the moral authority to conduct interviews for any position and called for its dissolution and reformation, involving prominent saints, Shankaracharyas, Ramanujacharyas, and representatives from akharas.
Regarding the student protests in Jharkhand, Rajput accused certain BJP affiliates of attempting to disrupt the movement. He stated that the protests primarily focus on issues like exam systems, paper leaks, and transparency in recruitment processes, and should not be politicized into violence.
He concluded by mentioning that discussions between students and the government in Jharkhand are progressing, with many demands being agreed upon, although some issues still face legal hurdles.
