New Delhi, August 12: During the monsoon session of Parliament on Wednesday, opposition party members raised several questions regarding the alleged drug test of an Air India pilot, the investigation report of the Ahmedabad plane crash, the FCRA bill, law and order in Bihar, the theft of donations at the Ram Temple, and issues concerning youth. Members from the Congress and Samajwadi Party demanded transparency and serious action from the government on these matters.
Congress MP Manish Tewari commented on the report related to the Air India pilot’s drug test, stating that he had neither seen nor studied the report. However, he emphasized that if the information is accurate, the matter is extremely serious and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) should address it with utmost seriousness and sensitivity.
Tewari also raised concerns about the lack of public disclosure regarding the investigation report of the Air India incident in Ahmedabad. He pointed out that the report has not yet been made public and stressed the need for serious attention to such sensitive issues. He questioned why the established procedures for releasing the plane crash report were not followed.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Sukdev Bhagat advocated for an investigation into the government’s intentions through a parliamentary committee and a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). He alleged that there seems to be an intent to harass the minority community in some form. Bhagat insisted that every point should be examined in the JPC to ensure that the rights granted under Article 19 of the Constitution are not violated.
Congress MP Amar Singh, addressing a separate issue related to the Air India incident, demanded that the Home Minister come to the House to provide answers. He stated that his party has consistently called for the Home Minister to clarify who ordered the use of force and pellet guns in this context. He highlighted the need for accountability in this matter.
The opposition also pressured the government regarding the FCRA bill. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram remarked that the previously issued version of the FCRA was quite stringent and raised concerns about the potential misuse of the law. He noted that there has been significant opposition from civil society, and relevant organizations have reached out to the government. Chidambaram suggested that the appropriate step for the government would be to send the bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for a thorough review of its provisions.
