Surat Cyber Crime Cell Recovers ₹2.52 Crore for Victims of Online Fraud

Surat, July 2: The Surat Cyber Crime Cell has successfully assisted 61 victims of cyber fraud in recovering ₹2.52 crore in the first six months of 2026. Additionally, under extensive recovery efforts, court orders have been obtained for a total refund of ₹13.38 crore for 1,824 applicants.

This recovery highlights the increasing use of legal methods to reclaim money lost in online financial scams. The initiative was part of the ‘Tera Tujhko Arpan’ program, during which Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot distributed refund checks to 15 beneficiaries on Wednesday.

According to the Surat city police, the recovered amounts relate to complaints of cyber fraud registered between January 1 and June 30. Following complaints lodged through the national cybercrime helpline 1930, the Surat Cyber Crime Cell coordinated with all police stations in the city and collaborated with banks across multiple states to freeze suspicious accounts and initiate the refund process.

Officials stated, “The Cyber Crime Cell worked under the guidance of Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot and Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Karanraj Vaghela, coordinating with courts, Lok Adalats, and banks across the country. The process was directly supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Cell) Bishakha Jain.”

During this six-month period, the Surat city police obtained court orders through Lok Adalats to refund approximately ₹13.38 crore to 1,824 applicants. The police also reported that refund applications totaling around ₹7 crore have been submitted by 1,690 applicants for the upcoming Lok Adalat scheduled for July 11.

Once court orders are received and necessary procedures are completed, the amounts will be deposited into the respective beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The police urged the public to report cyber fraud incidents immediately, emphasizing that prompt reporting increases the chances of halting fraudulent transactions before funds are withdrawn.

Authorities advised citizens not to download unknown applications or APK files received via suspicious links or messages disguised as RTO challans. They also warned against clicking on dubious SMS or email links.

Furthermore, the public was cautioned to be wary of social media groups and advertisements promising unusually high returns through online stock market investments.

Officials reiterated the importance of reporting incidents of cybercrime, including sextortion, morphed images, nude video calls, digital arrest scams, or any other type of cyber offense, through the helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
