Nainital, May 6: The Supreme Court has revoked the bail granted to the accused in the violence case that occurred in Banbhulpura, Uttarakhand, in February 2024.
The Nainital High Court had previously granted bail to the accused, Javed Siddiqui and Arshad Ayub. Following this, the Uttarakhand government challenged the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. After hearing the case, the Supreme Court dismissed the bail applications of the accused.
The Supreme Court has ordered the accused to surrender within two weeks.
It is important to note that during the anti-encroachment drive on railway land in the Banbhulpura area in February 2024, incidents of arson, violence, and significant damage to public property, including a police station, occurred. The police registered an FIR against the main accused, Javed Siddiqui, and others involved in the incident.
According to police reports, petrol bombs and weapons were used during the violence. Last month, the Uttarakhand High Court had granted the accused default bail.
The Supreme Court acknowledged that the extension of time sought by the investigation agency for the probe was not inappropriate. The court stated that the accused could file for regular bail in the lower court.
