Mumbai, June 8: In a significant development, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated a new ‘Facility Center’ in the Dahisar area of Mumbai. This center aims to provide improved sanitation and basic amenities to residents of slum areas. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making life more convenient, dignified, and better for every citizen.
During the inauguration ceremony, Piyush Goyal emphasized that Prime Minister Modi envisions better facilities for all citizens, making their lives easier and ensuring their dignity in society. He remarked that toilets are not merely facilities but are closely tied to people’s dignity and respect. With this mindset, sanitation has been made a crucial part of the country’s development journey.
Goyal pointed out that people living in slums do not choose to stay there voluntarily; rather, they are compelled by circumstances and constraints. He expressed his desire for every slum dweller to have a permanent and dignified home through slum redevelopment schemes. However, until this goal is fully achieved, it is essential to provide better basic amenities to these individuals.
He announced that a significant campaign has been launched in North Mumbai in this direction. With the collaboration of Hindustan Unilever, HSBC, JSW, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), such facility centers are being developed in various parts of the city. The center inaugurated in Dahisar is the first in North Mumbai and the 25th facility center under this initiative nationwide.
Piyush Goyal revealed plans to establish 100 more facility centers over the next three years. These centers will be operated with the participation of local women, providing them with employment and opportunities for self-reliance.
The facility centers will feature modern toilets, laundry services, and clean drinking water available at just one rupee per liter. The initiative will also promote water conservation through recycling and the use of modern technology.
The Union Minister expressed confidence that this initiative will bring about a significant positive change in the lives of millions living in slum areas and will be a vital step towards making Mumbai a cleaner, more convenient, and inclusive city.
