Trump Claims US and Iran Are Close to Peace Agreement

Washington, June 8: President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that the United States and Iran are very close to reaching a peace agreement. This is not the first time the President has made such claims regarding a ceasefire deal. He has previously asserted that negotiations between the two nations are in the final stages.

In an interview with NBC, Trump mentioned that there are still some disagreements, though they do not seem critical. He noted that Iran has already accepted one condition, promising not to develop nuclear weapons.

However, Trump clarified that he wants Iran to also relinquish its rights to acquire such weapons through other means. An Italian news agency, AdnKronos, reported that Iran initially resisted but later ceased its opposition.

Trump urged Israel to conduct targeted operations against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. He expressed a desire for the Lebanese people to have a better life and called for more surgical strikes against Hezbollah.

On Sunday, another Israeli raid in Beirut resulted in two fatalities and 11 injuries. According to recent official data, since the new conflict began on March 2, over 3,560 people have died in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.

The Israeli military reported that 29 soldiers and one civilian contractor have been killed in Lebanon. Trump stated that he has never spoken directly with Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, but acknowledged that the Iranian leader is involved in the process of reaching an agreement to end the war.

In the NBC interview, Trump described Mojtaba Khamenei as more sensible than his father, Ali Khamenei, who died on February 28 due to attacks from the US and Israel.

Trump characterized Mojtaba Khamenei as a courageous individual, noting that he is seriously injured yet still concerned about the state of relations with the US. He remarked, “Many people facing such severe injuries would not be asking about their situation with America. They would have other worries. So I would say this person has a unique kind of courage.”

Trump emphasized that the new Iranian leadership is more rational. He reiterated his willingness to engage in direct talks with the new Supreme Leader, stating, “If he wanted to, I would do it, but I have never spoken to him directly.”

Following an agreement to end the war that began on February 28, the US will collaborate with Iran to recover and dispose of its enriched uranium. However, if an agreement is not reached, the US will take unilateral action to recover uranium, further weakening the Iranian military.

Trump stated, “If we reach an agreement that justifies our position, we will cooperate. We will use our equipment to recover and destroy uranium, whether on-site or elsewhere. But we will not allow anyone to shoot at us, okay?”

He concluded, “If we do not reach an agreement, we will eliminate the uranium stockpile very strictly through military means.”
