New Delhi, April 3: Preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Haridwar are in full swing. As part of these efforts, the state government has imposed a ban on meat shops to maintain the sanctity of the religious atmosphere. This decision has garnered support from the saint community, particularly from Ayodhya. They are now calling for similar restrictions at religious sites across the country.
Saint Sumit Das Ji Maharaj expressed his approval of the ban, stating, “The saint community has long advocated for such regulations. In Ayodhya, the tradition has been to prohibit meat and alcohol shops within the 14-kosi parikrama area. The environment around religious sites should be completely pure and serene, allowing devotees to worship without any distractions.”
He emphasized that the ban should not be limited to Haridwar but should extend to all major pilgrimage sites and the banks of sacred rivers across the nation.
Acharya Harish Das Ji Maharaj also welcomed the meat sales ban in Haridwar, urging for its implementation at all religious locations. He remarked, “We appreciate the government’s decision, but it should not stop at Haridwar. Similar restrictions should be enforced at all significant pilgrimage sites and along the banks of holy rivers throughout India.”
Saint Varun Das Ji Maharaj praised the government’s initiative, highlighting the importance of preserving Haridwar’s sanctity as a city known for the Ganges. He stated, “Preventing activities that lead to impurity sends a positive message to society and strengthens religious sentiments. I thank the government for this decision, which helps unite society and preserve cultural values.”
Mahant Sitaram Das of Ayodhya Dham also supported the ban, asserting, “Haridwar is considered a place of liberation. People come here seeking peace for their souls and salvation. Therefore, the presence of alcohol and meat shops is inappropriate. I congratulate the government on this decision and hope similar actions will be taken at other religious sites in the future.”
