Sudden Darkness Engulfs Delhi-NCR as Storms and Heavy Winds Disrupt Daily Life

New Delhi, June 4: The weather in Delhi-NCR took a dramatic turn on June 4, 2026, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for June 4 and 5. Thick black clouds covered the sky, creating a dark atmosphere during the day. Strong winds, dust storms, and rain significantly impacted daily life, causing considerable difficulties for pedestrians and drivers alike.

According to the IMD forecast, thunderstorms with rain were expected in Delhi-NCR on June 4. The department warned of strong surface winds during the morning and afternoon, along with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder. Wind speeds in several areas reached between 50 to 70 kilometers per hour, causing tree branches to sway and disrupting traffic in many locations.

The IMD’s local weather forecast indicated a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 30 degrees Celsius for June 4. The department specifically warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. As the yellow alert continues into June 5, the weather department advised residents to remain vigilant.

On June 5, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 40 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. Forecasts suggest light rain with thunderstorms in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Meteorologists believe that the weather in Delhi-NCR may remain pleasant for the next few days due to the influence of a western disturbance and local meteorological conditions.

On June 6, the maximum temperature is projected to be 39 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius, and thunderstorms are again expected. However, no special warnings have been issued for this day. By June 7, clearer weather is anticipated, with maximum temperatures around 40 degrees and minimums at 27 degrees Celsius. While the recent storm and rain provided some relief from the heat, the sudden change in weather has also increased challenges for residents.

Many drivers faced reduced visibility and strong winds, necessitating caution on the roads. The weather department has urged citizens to avoid open spaces, weak structures, and standing under trees during adverse weather conditions. In light of the yellow alert, local administration and disaster management agencies are also on high alert.

The IMD emphasizes the need to monitor weather activities over the next 24 hours and advises the public to heed weather-related warnings as they are issued.
