Ahmedabad, August 22: In a significant operation, police in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district seized 306 cartons of illegal liquor from a residence in the Sorwa area on Friday. The total volume of the confiscated liquor is approximately 3,369 liters.
Authorities reported that the seized liquor, which includes beer and whiskey, is valued at around ₹10.97 lakh. Additionally, vehicles allegedly used for transporting the contraband were also confiscated.
This action was taken after the Sorwa police received information about a large cache of illegal liquor stored at a house in the Sarpani Faliya area of Moriavada village.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by the officer in charge of Sorwa police station conducted a raid and recovered the liquor. The haul consisted of 216 cartons of beer and 90 cartons of whiskey, totaling 306 cartons.
Alirajpur Superintendent of Police Raghuvansh Singh Bhadauria stated that this seizure is part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against illegal liquor trade.
Bhadauria noted, “Based on specific information, the Sorwa police conducted the raid and recovered a significant quantity of illegal liquor. We are investigating the source of the shipment and the network involved in its transportation.”
The police have registered a case against the accused, Ramsingh Moriya, under the Excise Act and have initiated an investigation. The focus will also be on identifying other individuals involved in the purchase, storage, and transportation of the liquor.
Bhadauria emphasized that strict action against illegal liquor trade will continue throughout the district. Legal measures will be taken against those involved in the illegal storage, transportation, or sale of alcohol.
Authorities are now investigating the source and destination of the seized shipment to determine if it is linked to a larger illegal liquor network.
