Beijing, August 22: In a regular press conference held by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, spokesperson He Yatong addressed several pressing issues. These included the US tariffs on drones and the European Union’s cross-border investigations against relevant Chinese entities using the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR).
He Yatong stated that China has consistently argued that the US Section 232 measures are a unilateral and protectionist policy disguised as “national security.” He emphasized that the drones exported from China to the US are primarily used in civilian applications such as agriculture, equipment inspection, and film and entertainment. The measures imposed under Section 232 exaggerate the concept of national security, impose different tariff rates on trading partners, discriminate against Chinese products, severely harm the interests of Chinese enterprises, disrupt the global drone production and supply chain cooperation, and further weaken a fair competitive market environment. China strongly opposes this.
He Yatong also mentioned that China has continuously opposed the misuse of unilateral tools like the FSR by the European Union, which are used to suppress Chinese companies. China hopes that the EU will correct its mistakes in the FSR investigations and work together to strengthen communication through intergovernmental dialogue. China will closely monitor the EU’s actions and take necessary steps to protect national security and the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises.
