Odisha DGP Issues High Alert Ahead of Festive Season

Bhubaneswar, August 22: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinayak Mishra has instructed police officials to enhance security and precautionary measures across the state in anticipation of the upcoming festive season. He emphasized the need for strict action against habitual and organized criminals.

During a high-level review meeting at the state police headquarters in Cuttack, Mishra assessed the current law and order situation, crime control, sensitive areas, major crimes, and the delivery of police services. Inspector Generals and Deputy IGs from all ranges, along with Superintendents of Police (SPs) from various districts, participated in the meeting via video conferencing.

The DGP directed police personnel to patiently listen to every complainant visiting police stations, treat them with respect, and ensure fair and prompt investigations of complaints. He also stressed the importance of regular attendance by police officers and improving the functioning of police stations and service delivery. Mishra instructed Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to regularly visit police stations under their jurisdiction and monitor their operations.

He called for the collection of strong intelligence to gain advance information about potential crimes and unpleasant incidents, enabling appropriate preventive measures.

With several major festivals occurring between August and November, including the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, Janmashtami, Ganesh Puja, Nuakhai, Durga Puja, Diwali/Kali Puja, Amla Navami, Panchuka, and Bali Yatra, the DGP emphasized the need for advance security preparations to ensure peaceful and safe celebrations.

Mishra instructed officials to deploy adequate police forces at sensitive locations, effectively manage crowds and traffic, hold regular peace committee meetings, and maintain continuous coordination with local representatives and various community groups.

He urged for ongoing vigilance in communally sensitive areas and the implementation of preventive measures to avert any unpleasant incidents.

The DGP ordered stringent legal action against habitual and organized criminals. He directed an increase in check posts and patrols to curb illegal animal transport and the manufacturing of illegal fireworks, along with regular raids and vehicle checks against illegal mining and mineral transport.

Additionally, he instructed the police to closely monitor rumors and inflammatory, offensive, and misleading content circulating on social media, ensuring immediate legal action against such activities.
