CBI Captures Fugitive Criminal After 23 Years on the Run

New Delhi, August 22: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended a declared fugitive who had been evading capture for nearly 23 years. The individual, Roop Singh, is accused of stealing goods worth ₹9 lakh, which were being transported by trucks to customers.

According to a statement released by the CBI, Roop Singh was arrested on Friday following the agency’s relentless efforts.

Previously, co-accused Arjun Singh was captured on November 7, 2025, after being on the run for approximately 22 years.

The CBI’s case originated from a complaint filed at the Amalner police station in Maharashtra on October 4, 1998. The allegations involve the theft and embezzlement of goods, including ghee and moong, loaded on two trucks.

It is alleged that on September 27, 1998, two truck drivers, Babu Khan and Aslam Khan, committed the theft and embezzlement of the goods.

The Bombay High Court in Aurangabad directed the CBI to investigate the case through its order dated February 25, 2002, concerning Criminal Writ Petition No. 547/2000 filed on November 27, 2000.

Consequently, the CBI re-registered the case against Babu Khan, Aslam Khan, and others on April 5, 2002, as RC-4(S)/2002-CBI, SCB, Mumbai.

The investigation led the CBI to file a charge sheet on December 19, 2003, in the JMFC court in Amalner against Roop Singh, Arjun Singh, Babu Khan, and Aslam Khan for crimes related to criminal embezzlement, conspiracy, and incitement.

The CBI revealed that the investigation uncovered that Roop Singh and Arjun Singh conspired with the two truck drivers to illegally embezzle the goods meant for delivery to another party.

During the trial, Roop Singh and Arjun Singh were released on bail but subsequently went into hiding. A competent court declared them fugitives on November 11, 2010. Babu Khan and Aslam Khan have been absconding since the inception of the case.
