Thimphu, August 22: A joint technical meeting was held between the Survey of India and the International Boundaries Unit under Bhutan’s National Land Commission. According to information shared by the Indian Embassy on Friday, the meeting reviewed ongoing work related to the maintenance and coordination of bilateral borders.
The embassy posted on the social media platform X, stating, “A joint technical meeting was conducted between the Survey of India and the International Boundaries, Royal Government of Bhutan, on August 19-20, 2026, in Thimphu. The meeting reviewed ongoing work on border maintenance and coordination, evaluated the use of emerging technologies, and finalized a joint action program for the upcoming period.”
Last week, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck met with his wife, Jetsun Pema, and officials from the Bhutan India Friendship Association at India House.
Regarding this meeting, the embassy shared on X, “Officials from the Bhutan India Friendship Association chapters in Thimphu, Phuentsholing, Samtse, Gelephu, Nanglam, and Samdrup Jongkhar met today at India House. His Majesty the King of Bhutan and Her Majesty Ashi Dekyi Yangzom graced the occasion.”
The embassy further stated, “We hope for joint efforts to strengthen and deepen people-to-people and community-level relations under the unique friendship and ties between India and Bhutan.”
This dialogue follows the visit of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to Bhutan last month. During his visit, he met with Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Shering Tobgay in Thimphu.
According to the Indian Embassy, both leaders discussed various aspects of India-Bhutan cooperation. The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for India’s unwavering support in the healthy progress of bilateral relations and Bhutan’s development.
During the visit, Misri also met with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. During their meeting, the Bhutanese King reaffirmed Bhutan’s commitment to strengthening ties with India.
A statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs noted that both sides discussed all aspects of bilateral cooperation, including development partnership, energy, trade and investment, connectivity, people-to-people relations, and other regional issues of mutual importance.
