Jalna, August 22: In a heartfelt gesture of respect and gratitude towards soldiers stationed at the country’s borders, students from the Sanskar Prabodhini Secondary School in Jalna, Maharashtra, have crafted eco-friendly rakhis. These handmade rakhis have been sent via post to soldiers serving in various locations across India. This unique tradition of creating rakhis for soldiers has been ongoing for 17 years at the school.
Inspired by dedicated teacher Ramdas Kulkarni, approximately 150 students participated in this initiative this year. They used materials such as cotton, thread, fabric, wood, wool, and paper to create attractive rakhis, ensuring that no plastic was used in the process. Alongside expressing love and respect for the soldiers, the students also conveyed a message of environmental protection. Many soldiers remain away from their families during Raksha Bandhan, and this initiative aims to make them feel connected to their loved ones with the theme “One Rakhi for the Nation, One Rakhi for the Soldier.”
The rakhis made by the students have been sent to soldiers in the Maratha Regiment, Wagah Border, and Assam Regiment. Additionally, to promote environmental awareness, female students plan to tie rakhis around trees, celebrating an eco-friendly Raksha Bandhan. This initiative fosters feelings of patriotism, respect for soldiers, and a commitment to environmental conservation among students. Over the past 17 years, this effort has become an inspiring tradition for the school.
Teacher Ramdas Kulkarni stated, “Around 150 students at Sanskar Prabodhini Secondary School have prepared rakhis for the soldiers. We will send these rakhis by post to various camps where the soldiers are stationed. No plastic has been used in making them; only biodegradable materials have been utilized.”
Student Sankruti Shivtare remarked, “This is an environmentally friendly initiative. We are making rakhis for the soldiers, but we are not using plastic. We are only using biodegradable materials.”
Another student, Sarvagya Shejul, added, “Under the guidance of Ramdas Kulkarni, we are making rakhis for the soldiers. Since they cannot come home for Raksha Bandhan, we will send them these rakhis. We have created 150 eco-friendly rakhis.”
