Mumbai, 12 January – The entertainment industry has witnessed the untimely demise of several talented stars whose sudden deaths have deeply saddened fans and peers alike. On Sunday, Prashant Tamang, the winner of Indian Idol Season 3, passed away at the age of 43 due to a stroke.

Hailing from Darjeeling, Prashant gained national fame after winning Indian Idol in 2007. He was a renowned Nepali singer and actor who also appeared in the popular series ‘Paatal Lok 2’. His death has left a significant void in the music and acting world. Alongside him, many other stars have left their fans heartbroken at a young age, making the list quite long.

Memorable Losses in Television and Film

On 2 September 2021, the entertainment fraternity mourned the loss of Sidharth Shukla, winner of Bigg Boss 13 and popular for his role in ‘Balika Vadhu’. He passed away at 40 due to a heart attack. Sidharth was also seen in shows like ‘Dil Se Dil Tak’ and ‘Broken But Beautiful 3’. His sudden death raised awareness about heart health among young people.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, known for films such as ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’, ‘Kai Po Che!’, and ‘Chhichhore’, died at the age of 34. Starting his career on television with ‘Pavitra Rishta’, Sushant made a successful transition to Bollywood. His death on 14 June 2020 sparked widespread discussion on nepotism and mental health in the film industry.

Actress Arya Banerjee, who appeared in successful films including ‘The Dirty Picture’, died in December 2020 at the age of 33. Her body was found at her Kolkata residence, and police investigations confirmed it was a case of suicide.

Actor Inder Kumar, known for supporting roles in hits like ‘Tumko Bhool Na Paayega’ and ‘Wanted’, passed away on 28 July 2017 due to cardiac arrest at age 44. His wife revealed that he was struggling with financial difficulties during his final days.

Tragic Departures of Young Television Stars

Pratyusha Banerjee, famous for playing ‘Anandi’ in ‘Balika Vadhu’ and a contestant on Bigg Boss 7, died by suicide on 1 April 2016 at just 24 years old. Originally from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, she had acted in various TV serials but ended her life due to personal troubles.

Jiah Khan, who acted in films like ‘Ghajini’, ‘Nishabd’, and ‘Housefull’, died by suicide on 3 June 2013 at her Juhu residence. After her death, notes found at her home alleged serious accusations against her boyfriend Aditya Pancholi. The case underwent prolonged investigation and was handed over to the CBI in 2021.

Child artist Taruni Sachdev, known as the ‘Rasna Girl’ and for her role in the film ‘Paa’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan, died in a plane crash on 14 May 2012, the day she turned 14. Her innocent acting had won many hearts.

Indian Idol Season 2 winner Sandeep Acharya passed away at 29 due to jaundice on 15 December 2013. From Bikaner, Rajasthan, Sandeep had won the show in 2006 and was loved for his melodious voice. He was preparing to release a new album when illness cut his dreams short.
