Lucknow, April 7: The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved a significant proposal during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. This decision paves the way for the establishment of a private sector ‘Metro University’ in Greater Noida, marking a crucial step towards expanding higher education in the state.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay announced that this decision aligns with the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019. He explained that the Act ensures proper regulation and operation of private universities.
The proposal for the establishment of ‘Metro University’ was submitted by the sponsoring organization, Sanhill Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., which has been allocated 26.1 acres of land by the Greater Noida Authority. Following a thorough legal review, the proposal received approval. The cabinet also decided to amend the schedule of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019, and to issue an operational license to the sponsoring organization.
The establishment of this university is expected to create new opportunities for quality higher education in the state, providing modern and employment-oriented education to the youth. This initiative will play a significant role in positioning the state as a leader in the education sector.
Minister Upadhyay emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding higher education, enhancing quality, and encouraging private investment. The establishment of new universities will also increase opportunities for employment and skill development in the state.
Additionally, the Yogi cabinet approved a substantial increase in the honorarium for Shiksha Mitras and part-time instructors. This decision will directly benefit millions of education workers in the state and strengthen the education system. According to the proposal presented to the cabinet, the honorarium for Shiksha Mitras, which was set at ₹10,000 in 2017, has now been raised to ₹18,000 per month.
