Prayagraj, February 26: Spiritual leader Ashutosh Brahmachari Maharaj held a press conference in Prayagraj on Wednesday, where he made several serious allegations against Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati. He claimed inappropriate behavior occurred at an ashram, naming several individuals as accused.
Brahmachari stated, “Those who call Mother Ganga dirty cannot bathe in her waters.” He further alleged that young students from flood-affected areas were brought to the ashrams and mistreated.
He also claimed that, according to a Supreme Court order, the term ‘Shankaracharya’ cannot be used for the saint; doing so could lead to contempt of court.
Brahmachari expressed his intention to reveal the names of those allegedly involved. He mentioned, “The first name is Swami Avimukteshwaranand, the second is his associate and disciple Mukundanand Brahmachari, the third is Arvind, who is a disciple of his guru-bhai, and Prakash Upadhyay.”
He further claimed that two students underwent medical examinations as per court orders, which allegedly indicated signs of tampering in the reports.
Speaking to reporters, Brahmachari accused some followers of the accused of being involved in wrongdoing but refrained from naming them, citing the ongoing investigation. He said, “Their names will be disclosed later as they belong to the same ashram. I have not been there, nor can I engage in such acts. My role is to expose such individuals.”
He also suggested that members of the Samajwadi Party and Congress might be implicated in this case, alleging that some individuals had visited the ashram and committed crimes against children. No evidence was provided to support this claim.
Referring to events from January 18, he alleged that the children managed to escape that day and later reported the incidents. He cited a Supreme Court ruling against roadblocks, accusing the saint of obstructing public access to the Sangam for sacred bathing.
This press conference took place shortly after a special POCSO court in Prayagraj ordered the filing of an FIR against Swami Avimukteshwaranand and others for the alleged sexual exploitation of minors, following a complaint filed by Ashutosh Brahmachari, a disciple of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya. The court directed the police to further investigate the matter.
