Son Allegedly Kills Father Over Land Dispute in Tamil Nadu

Kallakurichi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : In a disturbing incident in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, a son is accused of murdering his 84-year-old father over a dispute regarding a small piece of land. The tragic event unfolded near Ulundurpet, where the victim, Ponnusamy, was allegedly beaten to death by his son, Shivkumar, before being disposed of in a well on their farm.

Ponnusamy owned 2.5 acres of land, which he had divided between his two sons, Shivshankar and Shivkumar. The remaining 20 cents of land was retained by Ponnusamy. Shivshankar, who works as a laborer in Delhi, relied on his father to manage his share of the property. Meanwhile, Shivkumar reportedly engaged in frequent arguments with his father, demanding that the remaining land be transferred to his name.

On the day of the incident, Ponnusamy was drawing water from the well when a heated argument erupted between him and Shivkumar. In a fit of rage, Shivkumar allegedly struck his father multiple times with a wooden stick. After Ponnusamy lost consciousness, Shivkumar is said to have thrown him into the well and fled the scene.

Neighbors discovered Ponnusamy’s body and promptly alerted the Kallamarthur police. Authorities arrived quickly, recovered the body, and sent it for an autopsy at the government hospital in Ulundurpet. Investigations revealed that the murder stemmed from the ongoing property dispute. Shivkumar, who had been on the run, was apprehended and placed in judicial custody after a murder charge was filed. The brutal killing over a mere 20 cents of land has left the local community in deep sorrow and shock.
