Raebareli, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : On September 9, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrapped up his visit to Raebareli with a public meeting at the Bhuyamau Guest House. Starting around 9 AM, the event saw a large turnout as residents came to voice their concerns and requests. Long lines formed outside the guest house, where security measures allowed entry one person at a time.
Attendees included Congress workers, local citizens, and representatives from various organizations. Notably, leaders from the Samajwadi Party also met with Gandhi, discussing a range of issues that highlighted a potential political collaboration in Raebareli.
Among those who spoke was Akhilesh Mahi, the state secretary of the Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade. He urged Gandhi to establish a memorial and junction in honor of Rajendra Yadav, a soldier from Raebareli who died in the 1999 Kargil War. Mahi emphasized that despite Yadav’s sacrifice, no memorial has been erected in his name. Gandhi assured Mahi that action would be taken soon.
Mahi expressed confidence that the upcoming assembly elections would see the INDIA alliance secure a majority in Uttar Pradesh, posing a significant challenge to the BJP. During the public meeting, members of the Women’s Congress also interacted with Gandhi. Lakshmi Sinha, president of the Raebareli Women’s Congress, tied a rakhi on Gandhi’s wrist and pledged to support his bid for Prime Minister in 2029.
Anil Mishra, president of the Descendants of Freedom Fighters organization, presented a memorandum to Gandhi. He called for the preservation of the sacrifices made by the state’s freedom fighters and urged the completion of ongoing beautification work at the Munshiganj Martyrs’ Memorial.
Shailja Singh, the Congress district president, congratulated Gandhi on his visit and praised his efforts to amplify youth voices in programs related to students.
Additionally, a representative from the Brahma Kumaris Institute, Sister Jyoti, met with Gandhi, requesting him to continue visiting Raebareli and contribute to the city’s development. She presented him with a protective thread and a commemorative gift, which he graciously accepted, promising to visit the institute.
Gandhi’s visit also included a meeting with gold and silver traders on Tuesday night, where they raised concerns about a significant drop in their business. They reported a nearly 50% decline due to increased GST rates. Gandhi assured them that he would bring the issue to Parliament’s attention.
On the final day of his visit, Gandhi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation for various projects worth around three crore rupees from his MP fund. He will also participate in a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee at the Savings Building around noon.
