Speculations Rise Over CM Vijayans Absence Post Kerala Assembly Elections

Thiruvananthapuram, April 27: The political atmosphere in Kerala is beginning to stabilize following the assembly elections. However, the public absence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has become a significant topic of discussion.

The last official update from the government indicated that Vijayan underwent cataract surgery at a private hospital in Chennai and is currently recovering.

Since then, there have been no public appearances or detailed health updates, sparking speculation in political circles and on social media.

The opposition has quickly seized upon this issue. During the election campaign, Vijayan highlighted Kerala’s public health system as a model for the nation, citing its achievements. Consequently, critics are questioning his decision to seek treatment outside the state.

Despite this, the government has not indicated any serious health issues. Sources within the administration have noted that the Chief Minister chaired an online cabinet meeting last week, suggesting that governance is ongoing.

As Vijayan approaches his 81st birthday next month, he remains central to Kerala’s politics. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is confident that under his leadership, the coalition can return to power for a historic third consecutive term.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party is grappling with internal challenges. As they await election results, discussions about potential chief ministerial candidates have intensified, revealing old divisions within the party.

In this political climate, the Chief Minister’s silence and low profile have only added to the intrigue. Whether this pause is due to health reasons or a strategic maneuver is a matter of keen interest.

The picture will become clearer next Monday after the vote counting is completed, determining the future path for Vijayan and his party, CPI(M), as Kerala is now seen as the last stronghold for the party in the country.
