Venice, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The 83rd Venice International Film Festival concluded on September 13, 2026, on the Lido Island in Venice, Italy. During the closing ceremony, the Chinese VR short film “Pigeon Ring” was awarded the prestigious Venice Immersive Grand Award.
The Golden Lion for Best Film went to Danish director May El-Toukhy for her film “Woman Unknown.” The Grand Jury Prize was awarded to South Korean director Lee Chang-dong for “Possible Love.” Illya Khrzhanovsky received the Best Director award for his film “DAU.”
In acting categories, Mathilde Arseul won Best Actress for her role in “Woman Unknown,” while John Malkovich took home the Best Actor award for his performance in “Wild Horse Nine.”
Chinese films made a significant impact at the festival. “Pigeon Ring,” which won the top prize in the Venice Immersive section on September 12, tells the touching story of a grandfather and granddaughter searching for a lost pigeon ring, reflecting the memories and familial bonds within Chinese families.
The festival, which began on September 2, featured several key sections, including the main competition, Horizons, and Venice Immersive.
