New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed global leaders at the conclusion of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, stressing the potential dangers of using technology and critical minerals as weapons. He warned that such practices could significantly hinder global development, shared prosperity, and inclusive economic progress. Modi called for a collective approach, urging nations to move forward with cooperation, innovation, and partnership rather than employing strategic resources and technologies as tools of pressure.
During his speech at the Bharat Mandapam, Modi highlighted BRICS as a platform uniting diverse continents, cultures, and developmental journeys. This unity reflects the growing strength and mutual trust among member nations. He noted that India’s presidency focused on “resilience, innovation, collaboration, and sustainability,” aiming to translate these themes into practical outcomes through cooperation among all member states.
Modi pointed out that rising geopolitical tensions are directly impacting ordinary people. He cited the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change-induced disasters, and disruptions in supply chains as evidence that crises in today’s interconnected world are not confined to specific regions. Therefore, India emphasized enhancing the collective resilience of BRICS nations during its presidency.
He introduced the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework, which aims to strengthen and make global supply chains more reliable. Additionally, the BRICS Incubator Network will connect startups and incubators across member countries to promote innovation.
In the agricultural sector, Modi announced the BRICS Digital Agriculture Network, which will create new opportunities for farmers. This initiative will leverage artificial intelligence, geospatial technology, and digital public infrastructure to meet the actual needs of farmers.
Modi reiterated the importance of inclusivity in the use of technology and critical minerals, warning that the trend of weaponizing these resources could obstruct shared development. He emphasized the need for timely risk identification and readiness for immediate action to address future challenges. In this context, India announced the Integrated Early Warning System for infectious diseases and guidelines for early warning data integration for disaster management.
He shared that BRICS countries have agreed on a shared early warning system for preventing infectious diseases and ensuring rapid responses. This system is expected to enhance the capacity to tackle future pandemics and health emergencies.
In closing, Modi expressed that India aims to foster friendship, partnership, and cooperation through BRICS. He stressed that BRICS collaboration should extend beyond governments, actively involving entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women, youth, and ordinary citizens.
