Ranchi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded in the Sonahatu area of Ranchi on Sunday when a speeding truck collided with a motorcycle carrying a husband and wife. The wife was killed instantly, while her husband succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital.
The accident occurred near Barenda Tola, close to Devanasarna. The victims have been identified as Ramesh Mahato and his 42-year-old wife, Sindhu Wala Devi, both residents of Kushee Papadahudum village in West Bengal’s Jhalda area.
According to local reports, the couple was returning from a family event in Barenda Kulyantand when the truck struck their motorcycle from behind. The impact was so severe that Sindhu Wala Devi died on the spot, and Ramesh Mahato sustained critical injuries. Despite the efforts of locals to rush him to the hospital, he passed away before reaching medical assistance.
In response to the tragedy, agitated family members and villagers blocked the Silly-Rangamati main road, laying the bodies on the pavement. This led to significant traffic congestion, with vehicles lined up on both sides of the road, disrupting the flow of traffic.
The protesters demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family and the arrest of the truck driver responsible for the accident. Upon receiving the news, the Sonahatu police arrived at the scene and attempted to persuade the crowd to clear the blockade. They have since seized the truck and initiated an investigation into the incident.
