Frankfurt, August 2: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung arrived in Frankfurt on Sunday. This visit is significant as he plans to meet with the Korean community residing in Germany.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Frankfurt is the final stop on his five-nation tour, which began on July 24 in San Francisco. During the initial leg of the trip, he engaged with leaders from global tech companies to promote South Korea as a global hub for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors.
Following San Francisco, President Lee visited Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. In these countries, he held summit talks with top leaders to enhance cooperation on critical mineral supplies and other bilateral issues.
Before returning to Seoul on Sunday, Lee will meet with members of the Korean community in Germany. He arrived in Frankfurt after concluding his visit to Argentina.
In Buenos Aires, Lee held a special discussion with Argentine President Javier Milei. The two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on essential minerals, including advancing joint projects across the entire lithium value chain.
They also reached an agreement regarding the import of crude oil from Argentina and committed to resuming discussions on a free trade agreement between South Korea and the South American trade bloc Mercosur.
On Friday, President Lee emphasized that South Korea and Argentina are entering a new phase of cooperation, asserting that closer bilateral ties are more crucial than ever. He made these remarks during a meeting with members of the South Korean community in Argentina.
“I am confident that a new era of cooperation between Argentina and South Korea will fully commence,” he stated.
He added, “Amid the changing international order, from the AI revolution to shifts in the global supply chain, strategic bilateral cooperation is more necessary than ever.”
Lee concluded that the collaboration between South Korea and Argentina has reached a stage of tangible results.
