Surat, February 9: Former Union Minister Smriti Irani emphasized that women in Parliament always receive equal opportunities, with no discrimination involved. Drawing from her decade-long experience in the legislature, she noted that women MPs, regardless of their political party or state, are consistently given the chance to express their views and play an active role in the nation’s politics by Speaker Om Birla.
Irani stated that the Speaker has always encouraged women to contribute significantly. Sharing personal experiences, she affirmed that no woman MP has ever been overlooked, and all have been granted equal rights and respect.
She further mentioned that her ten years working under the Speaker have been particularly meaningful, observing an increase in women’s participation in Parliament. Irani highlighted that the Prime Minister and the government are continuously working towards women’s empowerment, with the Speaker’s approach serving as a crucial example in this regard.
Additionally, she stressed the importance of maintaining decorum in Parliament. She explained that due to concerns raised during the Prime Minister’s gratitude speech, the Speaker had to request the House to uphold its decorum, which she deemed a worrying situation. However, the Speaker handled it with great wisdom and impartiality.
Irani also praised the central budget, stating that it has been crafted entirely in favor of the poor and the common man. She noted that the Prime Minister and the central government prepared it with great depth, yet the opposition continues to oppose the budget.
Referring to a discussion held in Surat, Irani mentioned that professionals from various sectors participated, including those from the textile industry, chartered accountants, jewelry professionals, and MSME operators. They openly shared their thoughts, commending not only the budget but also expressing their respect for the Prime Minister. According to her, when the public welcomes leadership, it signifies a greater endorsement of the budget. She criticized the opposition for failing to engage in productive politics, suggesting they would remain in opposition as a result.
