New Delhi, April 15: The government has approved more than ₹92,000 crore in guarantees for the MSME sector during February and March this year. According to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, this initiative aims to provide robust support amid global challenges arising from conflicts in West Asia.
An official statement from the ministry revealed that over 2 million MSMEs registered on the enterprise portal during February and March 2026, bringing the total number of registered enterprises in the country to over 80 million. This reflects the continuously growing entrepreneurial activities in India.
The total credit extended to the MSME sector has surpassed ₹36.7 lakh crore, marking a quarterly growth of 23.5%. This indicates an improved credit flow in the sector despite global uncertainties.
To enhance access to finance, the government has significantly increased the limit for collateral-free loans for micro and small enterprises from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh. This change, effective from April 1, is expected to greatly benefit small business owners and new entrepreneurs.
Additionally, the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) platform has seen a remarkable increase in liquidity. Invoice discounting has surged from ₹4,300 crore in 2022 to over ₹7 lakh crore now. In just February and March, transactions worth ₹85,000 crore were recorded, showcasing the growing adoption of digital financing.
The government stated that it is consistently implementing policy measures to strengthen the MSME sector, especially during times of increasing global challenges.
Moreover, the government has decided to raise the limit for commercial LPG for industrial units to 70% of pre-March 2026 levels. This adjustment will benefit several sectors, including pharmaceuticals, food, polymers, agriculture, packaging, paints, steel, metals, ceramics, and glass.
The Ministry of Coal has instructed Coal India and Singareni Collieries to supply additional coal to states to ensure supply for small and medium consumers.
States have also been advised to expedite the process of providing new PNG connections for domestic and commercial consumers.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to working with all stakeholders to promote the strength, competitiveness, and growth of the MSME sector.
