Womens Participation in Banaskantha Dairy Board Reflects Push for Reservation, Says Gujarat Deputy CM

Gandhinagar, April 15: Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced on Wednesday that over 1.1 million women are among the 3.6 million members of Banaskantha Dairy. He emphasized the crucial role women play in achieving economic self-reliance within Gujarat’s dairy sector.

Sanghvi stated that the 33% representation of women on the Banaskantha Dairy Board mirrors the proposed reservation for women in Parliament.

Speaking at the joint ‘Milk Day’ and ‘Women Awareness Program’ organized by Banaskantha Dairy (Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited) and the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) in the village of Vav-Tharad, he highlighted the achievements of women in dairy farming.

Present at the event was Gujarat Assembly Speaker and Banaskantha Dairy Chairman Shankar Chaudhary.

Sanghvi addressed women involved in animal husbandry, saying, “Women from Banaskantha have made significant contributions to dairy farming and the milk revolution, inspiring women not only in Gujarat but across the globe.”

He reiterated that Banaskantha Dairy has 3.6 million members, with approximately 1.1 million women actively engaged in milk production, showcasing a living example of economic self-sufficiency.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is advancing a proposal for 33% reservation for women in Parliament, Banaskantha Dairy has already implemented similar representation, ensuring that women hold 33% of the seats on its board.

He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to animal protection, stating that the government is fully dedicated to taking strict action against activities such as cow slaughter.

Chairman Shankar Chaudhary praised the contributions and determination of women associated with Banaskantha Dairy. During the event, several female milk producers shared their experiences in animal husbandry and discussed their journeys in the field.

Women and livestock farmers who have excelled in this sector were honored by officials and received awards during the program, which saw participation from cooperative leaders, dairy directors, and a large number of women involved in animal husbandry from across the district.
