Mumbai, September 1: Manoj Jarange Patil, a prominent leader of the Maratha reservation movement, has made a significant announcement against the government. He declared that he will continue his hunger strike and will soon lead a protest in Mumbai.
Addressing the Maratha community, Jarange stated, “I will not end my hunger strike. I know how to reach Mumbai, and I will inform you. Once I arrive, you can head to the designated location. If you learn that I have reached Azad Maidan or Varsha Bungalow, please come out.”
He urged Maratha youth to gradually make their way to Mumbai, acknowledging that not everyone could travel together. “Starting today, I ask the Maratha community in Maharashtra to begin heading towards Mumbai by September 12. Travel at your convenience, but do not go directly to Azad Maidan, as we do not want them to know that Marathas are arriving,” he advised.
Jarange suggested that protesters should stay with relatives or friends in Mumbai. He added, “If the police find out that Maratha youths are staying at certain homes and attempt to take you away, do not hesitate to stay at the police station. They provide better facilities, so do not panic.”
He also questioned police actions, stating, “I observe whom the police detain. From today until September 12, travel to Mumbai whenever you can.”
Additionally, he has requested the government for permission to conduct a hunger strike in Mumbai from September 12 to September 30. “Please request them to issue a letter granting permission until September 30. Ask them to provide the approval today,” he insisted.
Jarange emphasized that the administration should clearly communicate that he intends to hunger strike in Mumbai, thus requiring official permission. He warned that whether or not permission is granted will be closely monitored, and further strategies will be developed accordingly.
