Bishkek, August 31: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek. During this meeting, the leaders held a bilateral discussion focusing on India-Russia relations, the Ukraine war, and global peace initiatives. Notably, PM Modi’s ‘car diplomacy’ was on display as he traveled in the same vehicle as President Putin.
Previously, in December 2025, when President Putin visited India, PM Modi welcomed him at Palam Airport in New Delhi. On that occasion, both leaders also departed together in a single car for subsequent events.
PM Modi’s car diplomacy extends beyond President Putin. It has been observed with former U.S. President Barack Obama, former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim, the German Chancellor, Jordan’s Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, current Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi, and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Before the bilateral meeting, PM Modi addressed the audience, referencing the Ukraine war and calling for peace. He stated that India supports peace and will continue to do so.
He remarked, “We have been discussing the Ukraine issue. Last time we met, you provided me with detailed insights. India supports all efforts for peace and will continue to back every initiative aimed at it. Every day spent in war pushes humanity back, while every step taken towards peace fills us with new hope and aspirations.”
In his appeal for peace, he emphasized the need to transition from endless conflict to the resolution of disputes, which is essential for the welfare of humanity. He conveyed that a peaceful resolution to all issues is the call of humanity and India’s message. The land of Mahatma Gandhi and Buddha carries a singular message: the path of peace.
