Ahmedabad, September 1: An Air India Express flight traveling from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Ahmedabad on Monday evening due to a bomb threat. Authorities reported that all 40 individuals on board were safely evacuated and subsequently screened.
According to airport police, around 2:40 PM, the Operations Control Center notified that flight IX-170 was diverted to Ahmedabad for security reasons.
The first officer discovered a tissue paper in the aircraft’s restroom, which bore a message in English stating, “Bomb Red 4:30.” The paper also featured a drawing of a bag. Following standard security protocols, the decision was made to land the aircraft in Ahmedabad.
The plane landed safely at Ahmedabad Airport at 4:27 PM. It was then parked at a separate and secure location on the Terminal-2 taxiway, where police and security agencies began necessary investigations.
A police team led by Inspector A.D. Chavda arrived at the scene. Officials confirmed that all 32 passengers and 8 crew members, including four crew members and four air hostesses, were safely evacuated.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) conducted thorough checks on all passengers and crew, as well as interviews. So far, no suspicious items have been confirmed.
The flight had taken off from Dammam at 10:25 AM and was scheduled to arrive in Delhi. However, it was redirected to Ahmedabad following the bomb threat.
Security agencies have currently isolated the aircraft in a separate area, and a detailed investigation is ongoing. Airport authorities are also completing all procedures related to security and sanitization.
Police have stated that an investigation is underway to determine the authenticity and source of the threatening message. The aircraft will only be allowed to resume its journey after the security checks are completed.
Meanwhile, the process of filing a case related to the incident has also begun, and officials are investigating the entire situation.
