Kolkata, September 1: Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and MP, has launched a strong critique against the BJP government. He alleges that the government is misusing state machinery to target opposition parties.
In a social media post, Banerjee stated, “The BJP government was not satisfied with illegally removing our party’s signboard just three days ago. Today, the fire department has been sent to conduct a fire safety audit at our party office, accompanied by cameras and the usual publicity stunts. Wow! One cannot help but be impressed by this administrative enthusiasm.”
He questioned the lack of such proactive measures when thousands of election machines were destroyed in a mysterious fire just a month before the elections. Banerjee remarked, “It is unfortunate that this tremendous zeal was nowhere to be seen when, within just a month of the elections, 4,000 control units, 4,000 ballot units, and 4,000 VVPATs were burned in a mysterious fire. Why was there no concern for fire safety then? Why did no one think of a fire audit? Where was the administration’s hustle in front of the cameras at that time?”
The Trinamool leader accused the BJP and the Election Commission of collusion, asserting that the government showed no concern when 12,000 election machines were destroyed, but suddenly became alarmed about fire safety at the opposition party’s office.
He concluded his post by saying, “It is clear that the government was unaffected by the burning of 12,000 election machines, but as soon as they notice an opposition party’s office, they suddenly become extremely concerned about fire safety. In reality, the fire audit is being conducted in the wrong place. If audits had been done in government offices in Alipur in a timely manner, perhaps those 12,000 machines could have been saved.”
Banerjee emphasized that a more thorough audit could reveal the true reasons behind the fire, as well as expose the real faces of the BJP and the Election Commission.
