Pune, July 1: A tragic incident has unfolded in Pune district, where a 23-year-old laborer from Uttar Pradesh was crushed to death by a JCB at a jaggery-making factory in Gadamodi, Daund tehsil. In a shocking attempt to conceal the incident, the perpetrators placed the victim’s body in the trunk of a car and disposed of it on the Wagholi-Rahu road. The Yavat police have registered a case against the JCB driver, the owner, and four others involved.
The deceased has been identified as Ramu Shambhu Pasi, a resident of Kola, Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh. He had been working at the factory since April 2026. His brother, Raju Shambhu Pasi (21), filed a complaint at the Yavat police station regarding Ramu’s disappearance.
According to police reports, on June 19, contractor Tamrej Faridi informed the family about Ramu’s absence. After waiting for several days without any sign of him, Raju traveled from Uttar Pradesh to Daund to search for his brother. The truth emerged on June 29 when inquiries at the factory revealed the grim details.
It was reported that while JCB operations were ongoing at the factory, driver Alam recklessly ran over Ramu, who was sleeping at the time, resulting in his immediate death. Following the incident, JCB owner Avinash Balaso Yadav threatened the contractor, saying, “Do not inform anyone about this, or we will kill you.”
Subsequently, Avinash Yadav, along with Ganesh Haribhau Jagtap, Kallu, and Pradhan Istakar, collaborated to place Ramu’s body in the trunk of a car. They returned early in the morning to dispose of the body on the Wagholi-Rahu road, attempting to stage it as an accident.
This case raises serious allegations of concealing the incident and destroying evidence. The Yavat police have filed charges against JCB driver Alam, owner Avinash Yadav, Ganesh Jagtap, Kallu, and Pradhan Istakar under Sections 106(1), 238, and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code.
